Claims the ticket in the current channel so everyone knows who is handling it. Run again on a ticket you hold, it releases the claim.
The bot first applies the server's Command Access rules for /ticket claim and checks that Tickets is enabled ("❌ Tickets is not enabled for this server."). The command only works inside a ticket channel or thread; elsewhere it answers "No ticket found in this channel." A closed ticket answers "This ticket is already closed." Only staff may claim: members with Manage Server, members of the ticket's staff team (added as a user or through a role) and holders of a role that was given access when the ticket opened. Anyone else sees "Only staff can claim tickets."
On an unclaimed ticket you become the claimer and the ticket's status changes to Claimed. The bot posts "🙋 Ticket claimed by @you!" in the channel for everyone to see; its text can be changed under "Messages while a ticket is answered" on 2 Answering. Pressing the Claim button on the welcome message turns it into Unclaim. When the DM "When staff claim it in Discord" is on (2 Answering, "Keep the member posted") and the member has not run /ticket dms off, the member gets a DM that names you as the one now handling their ticket, with a link to the channel. In a ticket by DM that DM has no link, because the member is not in the channel.
On a ticket you already hold, the command releases the claim and the bot posts "🔓 Ticket unclaimed." Pressing Unclaim on the welcome message does the same and turns the button back into Claim. When someone else holds the claim, the panel's "Taking a ticket" card on 2 Answering decides. With "Claim takes a claimed ticket over" on, you take the ticket over and the bot posts "🙋 @you took over this ticket from @<holder>." With it off, an Administrator or the server owner releases the claim, and other staff see "This ticket is already claimed by @<holder>. Only they or an admin can unclaim it."
Good to know
- The Claim button in the ticket's welcome message does the same thing and follows the same Command Access rules.
- When "Staff must claim a ticket before closing it" is on (3 Closing, "Who can close"), staff need a claim before they can close with /ticket close or the Close button. The member who opened the ticket never needs one.
- "Taking a ticket" can also rename the channel on claim, move it to a claimed category, make the ticket read only or hidden for the rest of the staff, keep the ticket actions to the claimer and show who claimed it on the welcome message. These are all off until you turn them on, and an unclaim undoes the rename, the move and the staff limits.
- /ticket assign hands the claim to another staff member.
- The "Mine" tab of the dashboard's Inbox lists the tickets you claimed that are not closed.
