What the bot needs

Welcome is granted these permissions by the invite link. A command that finds one missing replies privately with what it could not do and changes nothing.

Behaviour

Checked against the code 2026-10-01

Turns the welcome direct message on or off. Requires Manage Server; without it the bot replies "Requires Manage Server." The reply is visible only to you and reads "Welcome DMs enabled." or "Welcome DMs disabled."

With DMs on, every new member gets a private message from the bot. The default text is "Welcome to {server}! Check out the rules and enjoy your stay." It takes the same tags as the welcome message. By default it is plain text. On the Messages page, on the DM tab, Send as can make it an embed with up to 3 link buttons, and Include the welcome card attaches the card.

Good to know

  • The DM text is edited on the Messages page, on the DM tab. There is no command for it. An empty text means no DM is sent.
  • The DM does not need a welcome channel. It is sent even when no channel greeting is set up.
  • Members who block DMs from server members do not receive it, and nothing else happens.
  • Bots joining are ignored.
  • On the shared bot, a DM whose text looks like spam or a scam is held for review and not sent until the text is changed.
