Welcome is granted these permissions by the invite link. A command that finds one missing replies privately with what it could not do and changes nothing.

Behaviour

Checked against the code 2026-10-01

Gives you one of the roles on this server's self-assign list. The reply is visible only to you and comes in your own Discord language. Anyone can run it.

As you type, the role field suggests only the roles on the list that you do not have yet. You can also type a role's name. A role that is not on the list is refused with "That role is not on this server's list. Run /roles list to see the roles you can pick."

The bot checks the role before giving it and refuses with "I can't change that role for you: <reason>" when the role is @everyone, is managed by an integration, grants a privileged permission (Administrator, Manage Roles, Manage Server, Manage Channels, Ban Members, Kick Members, Manage Webhooks or Mention Everyone), or sits at or above the bot's top role. Otherwise it replies "Added @role."

Good to know

  • A server manager picks the roles on the Roles page of the Welcome dashboard and switches the command on there.
  • If you already have the role, the bot says so and changes nothing.
