The Moderation preset limits it to the roles you mark as moderators. Server owners and Administrators can always run it. How Command Access works.

What the bot needs

Sentinel is granted these permissions by the invite link. A command that finds one missing replies privately with what it could not do and changes nothing.

Behaviour

Checked against the code 2026-10-01

Quarantines a member from the right-click menu: open the member's menu, pick Apps, then Quarantine. It shares its Command Access rules with /quarantine. Discord shows it only to members with Timeout Members by default. The member must be in the server ("That member is not in the server."). The bot checks that the Moderation service is enabled ("Sentinel is not enabled for this server.") and that the moderator is an Administrator or holds a moderator role from the Settings page ("No permission."). It refuses to act on the server owner, on bots and on anyone whose highest role is at or above the moderator's own ("Cannot action that member.").

A form titled "Quarantine Name" opens with a single field, Reason. It is required, takes up to 512 characters and is recorded on the case. When the form is sent, the bot runs the Sentinel, moderator, panic lock and target checks again and checks that the account is not frozen, since a form can stay open for a while. There is no confirmation step, even with "Confirm before destructive actions" on.

From there it runs the same action as /quarantine. A quarantine role must be set. Without one the reply is "No quarantine role is configured. Run the setup wizard or set one in Settings first." If the configured role has since been deleted: "The quarantine role is missing or was deleted. Re-run setup to recreate it."

The role is added before anything is recorded; if Discord refuses, the moderator is told and no case is opened. On success the member is marked quarantined and a quarantine case is opened. The member gets a DM reading "You have been quarantined in Server: reason" (this DM has no switch), and a "Quarantine" card goes to the moderation log channel. The reply is "@member quarantined. Case #12". Only the moderator sees it.

Good to know

  • A quarantined member shows a quarantine flag in /history, in View cases and on the dashboard Members page under History.
  • Release with /unquarantine or from the member's page under History > Members on the dashboard.
  • With anonymous moderation on, the log card says "the moderation team" instead of naming the moderator.
  • While an anti-nuke panic lockdown is on, only the server owner, Sentinel's extra owners and the anti-nuke exempt users and roles can run it.
