Posts a one-time announcement in a channel you pick, straight from Discord. Both options are required: channel (a text or announcement channel in this server) and message (the text to post, up to 2000 characters).
What it checks first. The command exists only inside servers, not in DMs. Any Command Access rule set for it on the service's Commands page applies, and the server owner always passes. It is a staff command: you need Manage Server (Administrator and the server owner qualify) or a role or member allowed for it on the Commands page. Anyone else gets "You need Manage Server or a role allowed on the dashboard's Commands page to use this command." Announcements must be switched on for the server. If it is off, the bot answers "The Announcements service is not enabled here." A message over 2000 characters is refused with "Message too long (2000 char max)."
What happens next. The announcement is not posted on the spot. It is scheduled for right now and the bot posts it on its next pass, usually within 30 seconds. The bot confirms this privately, and only you see the confirmation. The post is plain text from the bot; Discord markdown in it renders as usual.
Mentions. Role and user mentions in the message ping. @everyone and @here appear as text but ping nobody. To allow them, schedule from the dashboard instead and tick "Allow @everyone / @here".
What it does not do. It does not check that the bot can see or post in that channel before confirming. If the channel is gone or the bot has no access when the post is due, the announcement moves to the Failed section of the Announcements page with a CHANNEL DELETED or NO ACCESS tag, and the server's owner and managers get a dashboard notification. Edit it there, pick a new channel and save. It then posts at the time shown in the form, right away if that time has passed.
Good to know
- Discord lists this command for every member, but only staff can run it. To let a role post without Manage Server, allow that role for this command under Services, Scheduled Announcements, Commands.
- Until it posts, the announcement appears in
/announce listand on the dashboard./announce cancelwith its number stops it if you are quick. - For a future date, a repeating schedule, an internal label, embeds or a preview, use New Announcement on the dashboard.
