How we checked How we checked these facts: everything this page says about Astro comes from Astro's own public pages, not hands-on testing. We compare stable structural facts only and leave anything we could not verify blank. Last verified 2026-10-12.

Astro calls itself a Discord bot for temporary voice channels and voice roles. A member joins a generator and Astro makes them a voice channel that it deletes when it is empty. Each generator has its own settings, and owners rename, limit, lock and hide their channel from an interface of buttons or with slash commands; admins add and remove the interface's buttons by command. When an owner leaves, ownership passes at random to someone still inside. Voice roles give a member a role while they are in a voice channel and take it away when they leave. Astro is free, and Astro Ultimate removes the caps and adds waiting rooms, private text chats, numbered names, names from the game being played and customisable interfaces.

YourBot is one bot whose features are services. Ten are built in and run free on every server, and Voice Channels is the one that covers Astro's voice rooms. The other nine include Sentinel moderation, Tickets and Welcome. Premium, billed per server, adds a bot under your own name, the open marketplace and the Plugin Builder.

The short version

  • Pick Astro if you want roles that follow members into voice channels, or waiting rooms and private text chats on Ultimate.
  • Pick YourBot if you want rooms named after the game being played without a paid plan, with moderation, tickets and the other services in the same bot.
  • If you run both for a while, give each its own join channel, so a member never gets two rooms.

Making rooms

Astro's generators each have their own settings, with name variables such as the owner's nickname and username and the channel's member count and limit. Names from the game being played and numbered names need Ultimate, and the free plan caps how many generators a server can have. Voice Channels runs several lobbies side by side, each with its own room name, people limit, sound quality and category, with the owner's display name or username, the room's number or the game being played in the name.

Running a room

Both give owners buttons and commands to rename, limit, lock and hide a room. In Astro, when an owner leaves, ownership passes at random to someone still inside. Voice Channels hands the room to the first member still inside unless you turn that off, lets anyone inside claim it then and lets the owner transfer it at any time. Its panel reaches the owner by DM and can be posted in the room's own chat, and every button is also a /voice command, including permit and reject for a member or a role, which are remembered for the owner's next rooms.

Roles, waiting rooms and text chat

Astro's voice roles give a role while a member is in a channel. Ultimate adds a waiting room, a voice channel next to the room from which the owner drags people in, and a private text chat that only the people inside can see. Voice Channels has neither a voice role nor a waiting room; a room uses the voice channel's own chat, and owners let people in with permit.

Switching

Make a Voice Channels lobby next to Astro's generator and let members try it, then remove the generator once its rooms have emptied. Astro's voice roles can stay if you use them. Set each lobby's room name and limit on the dashboard, and members can save their own with /voice prefs. Pricing has the current terms, and the temp voice bots table sets Voice Channels beside VoiceMaster, TempVoice and Astro.

Frequently asked questions

Is Astro free?

Yes. Astro Ultimate, its paid plan, removes the free plan's caps and adds features such as waiting rooms, private text chats and customisable interfaces.

Does YourBot have voice roles?

No. Voice Channels gives no role while a member is in a room. Who gets into a room is set with permit and reject, which can name a member or a role.

What happens to a YourBot room when its owner leaves?

By default the room passes to the first member still inside, who gets the owner controls. Turn that off and the room waits until someone inside claims it with `/voice claim`.
