Welcome

Greet every join with a message, a card and a DM, hand out roles, gate the server behind a button, a captcha or a web page with a deadline, and give newcomers a quest and a buddy. Everything is set on the web, and the bot refuses to hand out any role that could hurt your server.

Set it up

The dashboard's health check expects: Welcome channel. It shows a warning while one of these is missing or points at something deleted. The steps below say what each one does.

Follow these steps once to get welcome messages working. Each step names the dashboard page or slash command it uses. The Welcome service has five pages in the dashboard: Overview, Settings, Quests, Role Menus and Setup.

  1. Turn the service on. Enable Welcome for your server in the dashboard. The bot ignores joins on servers where the service is off, whatever the settings say.

  2. Let the Setup page make the channels. Open the Setup page and press Run Setup. It creates #welcome (members can read it, only the bot posts) and #welcome-logs (hidden from members), posts a sample "👋 Welcome System Active" embed in #welcome, and on a first run switches on the rich embed, the welcome card, the first-message celebration and the server highlights. If the bot cannot create channels the page says "The bot is missing Manage Channels or Manage Roles. Grant them and run setup again." If the bot cannot post in #welcome the page says so and warns that greetings would fail the same way. Re-run Setup later only repairs the channels and leaves your feature settings alone.

  3. Or pick the channel yourself. On the Settings page, under Welcome Message, choose the Welcome Channel. When nothing is saved yet the dropdown pre-selects your server's system channel, but nothing is written until you save. From Discord, /welcome set channel #channel does the same. The bot must be able to see the channel and needs Send Messages and Embed Links there.

  4. Write the greeting. Type it in the Message box on the Settings page, or run /welcome set message. Placeholders: {user}, {user.mention}, {user.name}, {user.id}, {server}, {member_count} and {created_at}. The default is "Welcome to {server}, {user.mention}! You are member #{member_count}!". For variety use Rotating Messages: up to 25 greetings, each with text, an https picture link, or both, and set Rotation Order to Random or In order. While that list has entries the single Message box is not used.

  5. Choose the look. Rich Embed (on by default) gives the colour bar, the avatar thumbnail and the Member #N footer; pick the Embed Color next to it. Generate Welcome Card (on by default) attaches the image card; pick a Template, and for Custom Background paste the Background Image URL. Server Highlights adds the member count and boost level to the embed. Start Here Channels lists up to five channels as clickable links in the embed.

  6. Save. Press Save All Settings. If a channel or role could not be applied the page says "Saved, but these were not applied because this server does not have them: ..." and a role the bot must never hand out is reported as "Saved, except: ... Pick a role without those permissions."

  7. Check it. Run /welcome test in Discord (Manage Server needed, once every 20 seconds per server) to see the greeting as a member would. After the first real join the Overview page shows Joins Today and the recent join, leave and verified events. If the Overview says "Nobody is being welcomed", follow its Fix this link: either no channel is set and DMs are off, or the message is empty.

Optional add-ons

  • Goodbye messages. Settings page, Goodbye Messages. Turn on Enable Goodbye (or run /welcome set goodbye true), pick a Goodbye Channel or leave it as the welcome channel, edit the Goodbye Message, and add Rotating Goodbyes if you like. The bot appends how long the member stayed.

  • Welcome DM. Settings page, Welcome DMs. Turn on Enable DMs (or run /welcome set dm true) and edit the DM Message. It works without a welcome channel. Members who block DMs from server members do not get it.

  • Auto roles. Settings page, Auto-Role. Turn on Enable Auto-Role and add roles from the Auto-Assign Role list, or run /welcome set autorole @role, which also turns it on. Set a Delay in seconds (at most 600) if you want a short wait; Role Persist gives returning members their old roles back. The bot's own role must sit above every role it hands out, and roles with Administrator, Manage Roles, Manage Server, Manage Channels, Ban Members, Kick Members, Manage Webhooks or Mention Everyone are refused.

  • Verification. Settings page, Verification Gate. Turn on Enable verification, pick the Verify Channel and the Verified Role, write the Verify Message and optional Rules Text, choose How Members Verify (Button, Captcha or Web page) and Who Has To Verify (everyone, or only suspicious accounts, meaning younger than the Suspicious Below days or without an avatar). Optional: an Unverified Role held until they verify, Kick After in minutes with a DM Reminder, what happens When The Deadline Passes (Kick, Ban, Hold with a Hold Role, or Nothing) and a Captcha Refresh. Save, then press Post / Update message to publish the Verification panel with its Verify button. Lock your channels behind the Verified Role. Auto roles, remembered roles and the buddy pairing wait until the member verifies; the greeting itself still posts at join.

  • Quests. Quests page. Press Enable Quests, pick a Quest channel or keep the welcome channel, then add tasks (Use Defaults adds Send a Message, Join Voice, Add a Reaction and Say Hello; a quest holds at most 15 tasks). Each task has a trigger: Auto: Send a Message, Auto: Join Voice Channel, Auto: Add a Reaction, Auto: Post Introduction, or Manual: Admin Marks Complete. Add rewards (Grant Role, Send Message or Award XP) that fire on one task or on Quest complete. New members get the quest list when they join, check progress with /quests list, and staff complete manual tasks with /quests admin-complete.

  • More. Logging (Log Channel) for one line per join and leave; Engagement for the First Message Celebration with its 🎉 reaction, welcome-channel shout-out and role; Milestones with your own list of member counts; Buddy System with a Buddy Pool Role and a Buddy Message; and the Role Menus page for self-assign role buttons and menus.

10 optional features with their own switch
  • Join and leave log: welcome log
  • Goodbye channel: goodbye message (when goodbye enabled is on)
  • Milestone channel: milestone posts (when milestone enabled is on)
  • Roles to give: auto-assigned roles (when autorole enabled is on)
  • Role after first message: first message role (when first msg enabled is on)
  • Verification channel: verification (when verify enabled is on)
  • Verified role: verified role (when verify enabled is on)
  • Buddy pool role: buddy pool role (when buddy enabled is on)
  • Quest channel: quest posts (when quest enabled is on)
  • Quest reward role: quest reward role (when quest enabled is on)

Comment ça fonctionne

  1. Run setup. The wizard creates #welcome and #welcome-logs, posts a sample, and the first time turns on the embed, the card, the first-message celebration and server highlights.
  2. Write the greeting. Text or a rich embed with placeholders, a card template, an optional DM, and up to 25 rotating variants with their own images.
  3. Decide what a join unlocks. Roles on join, with a delay if you like, or only after the member verifies. A buddy, a quest and a log line follow.
  4. Keep them engaged. Quest tasks with rewards, role menus for self-service roles, a celebration for the first message, and milestones for the server.

Everything it does

The welcome message

One greeting, or twenty-five that take turns.

Text or embed. A plain message or a rich embed with the member's avatar and a colour you choose.
Placeholders. {user}, {user.mention}, {user.name}, {user.id}, {server}, {member_count} and {created_at}.
Rotating greetings. Up to 25 variants, each up to 1,900 characters with its own image or GIF, shown at random or in order.
Server highlights. Add who is in voice, the member count and the boost level to the embed.
Start here channels. Point newcomers at up to 5 channels as clickable links.
A goodbye. Off by default. A message on leave with the same placeholders and rotation, which can note how long they were a member.
A DM. Off by default. The same placeholders, sent privately.

The welcome card

An image the bot draws itself.

An 800 by 350 image. Rendered by the bot, with no third-party service and no watermark, and a round avatar.
Five looks. Gradient, dark, light, minimal, or your own background image.
Never holds up the greeting. If the card takes too long the message still goes out without it. Backgrounds are cached for 10 minutes.
Preview as you edit. A live preview on the settings page, and /welcome test in Discord.

The verification gate

Hold a join until a person proves they are one. Everything below runs on both the shared bot and a custom bot.

Three ways to verify. A green Verify button on a panel in a channel you choose. A captcha, an image with a code, three tries per image and a New image button. Or a web page, where the member signs in with Discord and the bot checks they are really in your server before anything is shown.
Until then, nothing. No auto-role and no buddy until the member verifies. Optionally an Unverified role is given on join and taken back on verify, so you can hide channels from people who have not verified yet.
A deadline. Give members a number of minutes, up to seven days, and one DM reminder before it. At the deadline the member is kicked, banned, held with a role you pick or left alone, your choice. Hold keeps them in the server and tells them a moderator has to verify them; verifying takes the role back.
Only the suspicious. Gate everyone, or only accounts younger than a number of days or without an avatar. Trusted members are verified the moment they join, and the log line says which path each join took.
Captchas that refresh. Set an interval from 30 to 600 seconds and the image is swapped in place while it is open. An answer to an image that has since been replaced fails, so a code cannot be farmed.
Rules under the button. Add your rules text and it appears under the panel and on the web page.

Roles

What a join unlocks, and what it never can.

Auto-roles on join. One or more roles, immediately or after a delay of up to 600 seconds. A member who leaves during the delay gets nothing.
Role persist. A returning member gets back the roles they held when they left, never the gate's own Unverified or hold role.
Safe by construction. Every role grant refuses everyone, managed roles, roles with dangerous permissions such as Administrator or Manage Roles, and any role above the bot's own.

Quests, buddies and celebrations

The first week, made into a game.

A welcome quest. Tasks such as send a message, join voice, add a reaction and say hello, or your own, each with an emoji and a trigger. Staff can mark a task done by hand.
Rewards per task or on completion. A role, a celebration message, or XP that members check with /quests list.
Buddies. Pair each newcomer with the least-loaded member of a buddy role, announce the pair, and optionally DM the buddy. Members who verify on the web page get a buddy the same way.
The first message. React with 🎉, announce it, or grant a role the first time a member speaks.
Milestones. Announce member counts you choose. The defaults are 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000.

Role menus

Self-service roles that look like part of your server.

Up to 25 roles per panel. Buttons or a dropdown, single or multi-select.
Styled. An embed or plain text with a title, a formatted description, a colour, a thumbnail, an author row, a footer and a banner.
Survives restarts. Published panels keep working after the bot restarts.
Dangerous roles are hidden. The picker leaves out roles the bot must not grant and tells you why.

In the dashboard

Overview Joins today, status pills for welcome, quests and auto-role, a recent activity feed, the slash command reference, and a warning when the setup would greet nobody.
Settings Welcome message with rotation, the card, goodbye messages, auto-role and role persist, the verification gate (how members verify, who has to, the Unverified role, the deadline and what happens at it, the reminder, the captcha refresh) with a readiness checklist and a post button, welcome DMs, logging, the first-message celebration and server highlights, milestones, and the buddy system, with a live preview and a sticky save bar.
Quests Enable the quest, pick its channel, order and edit tasks, add rewards, and preview the embed.
Role Menus Panels with their status, and an editor for placement, layout, selection mode, message style and up to 25 roles, with a live preview and publish.
Setup The one-click wizard, then a status view with re-run.

Paramètres

GeneratedAll 45 settings
Welcome channel Where new members are greeted. Required for the welcome message.
Welcome message The greeting text. {user}, {user.mention}, {user.name}, {user.id}, {server}, {member_count} and {created_at} are filled in. Up to 2,000 characters. Default: Welcome to **{server}**, {user.mention}! You are member #{member_count}!. To rotate several greetings, add them to the Rotating Messages list on the Settings page; while that list has entries this text is not sent.
Send as an embed Sends the greeting as an embed with the accent colour, the member's avatar as thumbnail and a Member #N footer. Server Highlights and Start Here channels only appear inside the embed. Off sends plain text; the card still attaches. Default on.
Join and leave log A staff channel that gets one line per join with the account age in days, the member number and the user id, and one line per leave with how long they were a member. With verification on, the join line says whether the member had to verify, and a member removed, banned or put on hold at the deadline gets a line too. The Setup page creates #welcome-logs for this.
Goodbye messages Posts a message when a member leaves.
Goodbye channel Where goodbye messages go. The welcome channel is used when this is empty.

Runs on its own

On join. Record the event, post the quest, send the message, card and DM, restore persisted roles, grant auto-roles now, after the delay, or after verification, give the Unverified role and start the deadline if the gate applies, assign a buddy, check milestones, and log a line.
On leave. Record the roles they held, send the goodbye, and log a line.
On verify. Grant the verified role, take back the Unverified and hold roles, and run the auto-role and buddy steps that were waiting, whichever way the member verified.
At the deadline. A pass every 15 seconds sends the reminder DM, then kicks, bans, holds or closes the case, on whichever bot serves your server.
On activity. Messages, voice joins and reactions tick quest tasks and trigger the first-message celebration.

Safety

Role grants fail closed. Every grant, whether auto-role, persist, quest, first message, verification, the hold role or a menu, refuses everyone, managed roles, eight dangerous permissions, and any role at or above the bot's own.
The web page checks membership first. A visitor signs in with Discord, and the bot confirms they are in your server with its own token before the page shows anything about it, and the page is rate limited per member.
Captcha codes are short-lived. A pending code lives for minutes, not days, and is consumed on the first correct answer.
No mass pings. Every message the service sends blocks everyone and here, and member names are defused so a member called @everyone cannot ping the server.
Channels and roles are verified. Every ID saved from the settings form is checked against your server's real channels and roles first, and the hold role may be neither the verified role nor the Unverified role.
Temporary permissions are returned. To post into a locked verify channel the bot grants itself view and send, posts, then removes the grant.
Safe image fetches. Custom card backgrounds are fetched over https only, from public addresses only, with a size cap.
Little is stored. Discord IDs and names, a snapshot of roles on leave for role persist, and a pending row per unverified member until they verify or the deadline passes. No message content.

What it does not do

  • No animated cards. The card is a PNG.
  • No custom fonts, card sizes, logos or watermarks.
  • No Discord membership screening. The gate is Welcome's own panel, captcha or web page.
  • No drip sequence of follow-up messages after the welcome.
  • No quest leaderboard. Members see their own XP.
  • No CSV import for role menus or quest tasks.

Questions

Can I use my own image on the card?

Yes. Choose the custom background template and give it an https image URL of up to 5 MB.

Can the greeting change each time?

Yes. Add up to 25 rotating messages, each with its own image, and choose random or in-order rotation.

Can new members be held until they verify?

Yes. Turn on the verification gate, pick a button, a captcha or the web page, post the panel, and auto-roles and buddies wait for it. Give out an Unverified role to hide channels until then.

What happens if someone never verifies?

Whatever you chose for the deadline: a kick, a ban, a hold role that keeps them in the server until a moderator verifies them, or nothing. They get one DM reminder before it.

Can I gate only suspicious accounts?

Yes. Set who has to verify to suspicious accounts, pick the age limit, and everyone else is verified the moment they join.

What roles can it grant?

Any role below the bot's own that is not managed by an integration and does not carry a dangerous permission such as Administrator, Manage Roles or Ban Members.

Does it welcome people who rejoin?

Yes, and with role persist on they get back the roles they had when they left.

Where does the quest show up?

It is posted when a member joins, in the quest channel, and any member can see their own progress with /quests list.
