Issues a formal warning and opens a case. Discord shows the command only to members with Timeout Members unless the server changes that under Server Settings > Integrations. Before acting, the bot checks any Command Access rules set on the dashboard, that the Moderation service is enabled for the server ("Sentinel is not enabled for this server."), and that the moderator is an Administrator or holds one of the moderator roles from the Settings page ("You don't have permission to use this command."). It refuses to warn the server owner, a bot, or anyone whose highest role is at or above the moderator's own ("You cannot action that member."). The server owner can warn anyone except bots.
The warning opens a warn case with the next case number and adds one warning point to the member's record. The moderator sees "Warning issued to @member. Case #12". Only the moderator sees the reply. Nothing is done to the member on Discord: they are not muted, timed out or removed.
When "DM on warn" is on (it is by default), the member gets a direct message built from the warn DM template. The stock text is "You have received a warning in {server}: {reason}". If the template does not place the case number itself, a line is added telling the member to appeal with /appeal and the case number, and a web appeal link follows when the dashboard has a public address. A member with closed DMs is skipped silently.
If a moderation log channel is set, a card titled "Warning Issued" is posted there with the member, the reason, the case number and who acted. With anonymous moderation on, the card and the DM say "the moderation team" instead of naming the moderator.
Good to know
- Warnings stop counting after the warning expiry period on the Settings page (30 days by default). The case itself stays on record.
- This command never asks for confirmation, even with "Confirm before destructive actions" on.
- While an anti-nuke panic lockdown is on, only the server owner and the anti-nuke exempt users and roles can run it.
- /history shows the member's warning count, /case shows one case, and the dashboard Cases page shows everything.
