Server deafens a member in voice and opens a case. Discord shows the /voicemod group only to members with Mute Members by default. The bot checks Command Access rules, that the Moderation service is enabled ("Sentinel is not enabled for this server."), and that the moderator is an Administrator or holds a moderator role from the Settings page ("No permission."). It refuses to act on the server owner, on bots, and on anyone whose highest role is at or above the moderator's own ("Cannot action that member.").
The duration is optional and takes s, m, h, d or w units; anything over 28 days is cut to 28 days. A value that does not parse is refused with "Invalid duration. Use: 60s, 10m, 1h, 1d, 7d, 28d". Without a duration the deafen stays until lifted.
Discord only changes a server deafen while the member is connected to voice. If they are not, the reply is "@member is not in a voice channel right now. Discord only lets me change that while they are connected." and a "Server deafen skipped" card goes to the moderation log channel. On success a server deafen case is opened, a "Server deafen" card with the member, who acted, the reason, the case and "Lifts after" for a timed deafen goes to the log channel, and the reply is "@member: server deafen. Case #12", followed by "Lifts in 1h." when timed. No DM is sent.
Good to know
- A timed deafen is lifted automatically. If the member is not in voice at that moment, the bot keeps trying for up to a week, then leaves it to staff to lift with /voicemod undeafen.
- /voicemod undeafen lifts it early and cancels the timer.
- While an anti-nuke panic lockdown is on, only the server owner and the anti-nuke exempt users and roles can run it.
