Temporary voice channels for your Discord server
YourBot adds join to create voice channels to Discord. A member joins your lobby, gets a room they own and it deletes itself when the last person leaves.
Discord has no native temporary voice channels. Servers either pre-create a wall of numbered rooms that sit empty most of the day, or everyone piles into the same two. Join-to-Create fixes that, and it is one of YourBot's ten built-in plugins. You designate a lobby voice channel, and joining it creates a fresh room and moves you straight in.
The person who made the room runs it
By default the member who triggers the room becomes its owner and gets a Discord permission overwrite on that channel: Manage Channel, Move Members, Mute Members, Deafen Members and Priority Speaker. Renaming the room, changing its size or disconnecting someone all happen through Discord's own channel controls, so there is nothing to learn and no commands to memorize. Rejoin the lobby later and you land back in your existing room instead of getting a second one, and if a category permission re-sync wiped your owner overwrite, that rejoin quietly restores it.
Setup is one click
The auto-setup wizard creates a Voice Channels category and a Click to Join lobby with a one-person limit, so joining it fires join-to-create immediately, then saves the settings for you. After that you choose which category new rooms are created in, along with a default user limit and bitrate for every room. Names come from a template, 🎧 {display_name} by default, with {username} available too, and every name is trimmed to 90 characters so a long nickname cannot break the channel. Rooms can inherit the parent category's permissions exactly, or lock to a role allow-list where only the roles you pick can see or join.
It tells you what is missing before it fails
Before you use the plugin, the dashboard compares the bot's real permissions against the eight this plugin needs (View Channel, Connect, Manage Channels, Manage Roles, Move Members, Mute Members, Deafen Members and Priority Speaker) and names exactly what is missing. At runtime it goes further. Discord refuses an entire channel-create request when an overwrite grants a permission the bot itself lacks, so the plugin trims the owner overwrite down to what the bot actually holds and logs what it dropped. A partly-permissioned bot still creates rooms instead of failing outright.
Empty rooms clean themselves up
When the last person leaves, the room is deleted and untracked. Discord's member cache lags behind reality, so the plugin re-checks 1.5 seconds later rather than trusting one look, and it treats an already-deleted channel as a success. If the bot restarts while rooms are open, it reconciles its tracking against Discord on the next start: channels that no longer exist are untracked, empty ones are removed. Your channel list stays exactly as long as the number of conversations actually happening.
Join-to-Create is built in, not a paid add-on, and it ships switched off until you enable it. That is the model: one bot whose features are plugins, with an open marketplace where independent developers publish more, so you run only what your server uses. See pricing for what a subscription covers, or gaming communities for how voice rooms sit next to LFG and event scheduling.
Foire aux questions
How do I get temporary voice channels in Discord?
Discord has no native option, so you add a bot. Enable YourBot's Join-to-Create Voice Channels plugin and run its setup wizard: it creates a voice category and a lobby channel, and members get their own room by joining the lobby.
What is a join to create channel?
It is a designated lobby voice channel. Joining it triggers the bot to create a fresh voice channel and move you into it, so rooms exist only while someone is actually using them.
What happens to the channel when everyone leaves?
It is deleted automatically. The plugin re-checks 1.5 seconds later because Discord's member cache lags, and it sweeps rooms left empty by a restart the next time it starts, so empty channels never pile up.
Can members rename or resize their own voice channel?
Yes. Whoever creates the room gets Manage Channel, Move Members, Mute Members, Deafen Members and Priority Speaker on it, so they rename it, change the user limit or disconnect someone with Discord's own controls. Editing the room's permissions stays with server managers on the dashboard.
Are there slash commands for temporary voice channels?
No. Room owners use Discord's built-in channel controls on the room they created, and server managers handle renames, user limits, locking, ownership transfer and deletion from the YourBot dashboard.
Can I control who can see or join the rooms?
Yes, with two models. New rooms can inherit the permissions of the category they are created in, or you can switch to a role allow-list where everyone is denied by default and only the roles you choose can see and join.
What permissions does the bot need?
View Channel, Connect, Manage Channels, Manage Roles, Move Members, Mute Members, Deafen Members and Priority Speaker. The plugin page checks the bot's real permissions and tells you which of those are missing before you rely on it.
Is the voice plugin free?
The plugin is built in, not a paid add-on, and YourBot is free during its open beta. A subscription unlocks every built-in plugin's full feature set, including the dashboard's settings editing, lobby auto-recreate, channel import and per-room management.
