The Discord LFG bot for gaming servers

Finding a group in Discord usually means shouting into a #lfg channel and hoping somebody scrolls back. Group Finder replaces that with structured listings. A player runs /group create and the listing posts to your LFG channel as a live embed. While seats are open the title reads LF3M, so the channel says at a glance what needs filling.

Joining is one click and the seat count is honest

When a listing has role slots there is no generic Join button. Joiners open a dropdown showing every open slot with the spots left on it and pick Tank or Healer. The roster repaints for everyone. Seats are counted under a database lock, so two people clicking in the same second cannot overfill a slot: whoever loses lands on the waitlist and is promoted automatically, with a DM, when somebody drops. A leader-only Ready Check button pings the party once and keeps a live tally. Done closes the group and credits everyone who ran it.

Templates are the per-server memory

Five templates ship ready to use: Generic LFG, Dungeon Finder, Raid Finder, PvP Squad and Event Signup. Dungeon Finder opens with Tank 1, Healer 1 and DPS 3; Raid Finder with Tank 2, Healer 5 and DPS 13. Build your own from 11 custom field types with your own embed color, icon, thumbnail and footer, so the run you post every week looks the same every time. Party size runs from 2 to 40, and one difficulty label (Fresh, Prog, Farm, Learning or Chill) says whether this is a progression night or a farm run.

Scheduled runs, reminders and cleanup

Group Finder covers pickup groups and planned ones: give a listing a start time and the embed renders it as a native Discord timestamp, so every member reads it in their own timezone, and roughly 15 minutes before it begins everyone signed up and everyone watching gets a reminder DM. Listings expire on their own, 4 hours by default and up to 48. When one ends the bot locks and archives any forum thread it made and deletes the voice channel it opened when the party filled. Bumping is manual with a one hour cooldown, so nobody camps the top of the channel.

Sharing listings with other servers

Cross-server posting is opt in at both ends. An admin creates a network and shares its ID, partner admins join it and each server decides separately whether it sends its own listings out, takes partner listings in or both. Only listings you mark as network visibility travel, and fan-out is capped at 15 broadcasts a minute per server. Every copy shares one roster, so a click on a partner's message updates the original everywhere. Those listings also open a browser event chat with presence, @mentions, reactions and a pinned message, readable as an archive for 24 hours after the group ends. Every server also gets a public listings page and an embeddable widget for its own site, no login needed.

Setup and what admins control

/group setup reads your channel and role names to work out which of nine games your community plays, from WoW and FFXIV to Destiny and Lost Ark, then builds a Group Finder category, an #lfg-listings channel and a tagged #lfg-forum and writes starter templates. Re-running it reuses what already exists. You also set a cap on open listings, a posting cooldown, a minimum account age, a keyword blocklist and posting suspensions, enforced the same way on the slash commands and the dashboard form. Each of the 19 /group subcommands can be limited to a role or a channel or switched off, and the listing buttons obey the same rules, so a button is never a back door.

Group Finder is one of ten built-in plugins that come with every server, one switch away on the dashboard. It is the LFG half of a gaming community setup; for recurring events with RSVPs the built-in Beacon Events plugin fits better, and anything game-specific comes from the marketplace, where independent developers publish plugins that run sandboxed with no network access.
